Dealer Fails to Cover Up Drugs With Durian Fruit
THAILAND - Durian fruit, probably known better for its strong smell than its prickled skin, has been used as the latest method to hide methamphetamine as it was held for illegal redistribution.
The so-called “king of fruits” did not stop officials from uncovering the contraband, though several who aren’t fans of its pungence did have to leave the room after finding “a number of durian fruit left uncovered in the house,” according to news source The Nation.
In all, 377 methamphetamine pills were obtained in the bust, and Wisut Boonmee, 27, was arrested. District officials raided his home in Samut Prakan after receiving a tip that he was selling the pills to youths in the area.
The estimated street value was not published, nor was there anything about accompanying suspects or arrests, though the man told officials he bought the methamphetamine on May 12.
The news source reported that Boonmee said he hoped the smell of the durian would cover the smell of the drug when he repackaged them for sale.
While we hope this will keep durian's powerful perfume from being used for nefarious purposes, rest assured we'll let you know if others continue to try.
