Family Tree Farms' Ryan Howard Discusses Early Stonefruit Outlook for 2025 Season

REEDLEY, CA - Stonefruit is a beloved favorite of mine. The sweet flesh, the beautiful and varied hues that dapple the skin—what’s not to love? With spring well on its way and the months of summer within our sights, I turned to Family Tree Farms to learn how its stonefruit program is currently shaping up. Let me tell you, it has only furthered my hunger for the category.

“Following a winter with fewer chill hours than usual, we’ve had a strong spring marked by plenty of rainfall. While there's still some time before our first harvest in early May, we’re optimistic. All signs point toward building on a great 2024 with an even better 2025 season,” Ryan Howard, Sales Manager, tells me.

With bloom mostly complete, the company’s crews have begun thinning the early-season varieties.

“While it's still a bit early to pin down exact volumes, we’re currently expecting plum and apricot crops to come in at normal to slightly lighter levels. Peaches and nectarines, however—particularly our specialty white flesh and core yellow flesh varieties—are on track for full crops. Fan-favorite Pearlicious white nectarines will be available weekly starting in late May.”

Ryan notes that the season typically starts off slow in May, but picks up in early June. At this time, Family Tree Farms expects strong volume across all of its early commodities.

“June 1 marks the start of plumcot and donut peach harvests. June and July will bring a wave of high-flavor varieties, including standouts like Midnight Rose apriums and Nectapie donut nectarines. By August, our lineup is packed with flavor-rich offerings like Flavor Gator plumcots and Pink Moon white peaches,” Ryan adds.

“Summer 2025 is shaping up to be especially sweet,” Ryan concludes.
