GR Fresh's Tony Incaviglia Discusses Strong Bell Pepper Market Ahead of the Holidays
MCALLEN, TX - From soups and salads to entrees and all the delicious opportunities in between, bell peppers are holding their rank as a holiday season staple. As GR Fresh reports a strong market for this central category, I sought expert insights from Tony Incaviglia, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
“Ultimately, when it comes to promoting bell pepper sales now through the winter, retailers need to know their customer base,” Tony explains. “Some ideas include large, colorful, and creative displays that catch shoppers’ eyes. Display them next to salad ingredients, entrees, and ingredients for other dishes. Packaging with other value-added items noting recipes will also help drive sales.”
Divulging some pricing details for the category, Tony also noted that the category is seeing a very strong market depending on grade and sizing. Current pricing trends are leaning toward $24 for good-looking choice to $34 for extra large #1 grade peppers.
“Weather in the southeastern part of the country has caused agricultural challenges and even tougher living conditions. Volume has been well below historical numbers, impacting demand needs and triggering higher markets,” Tony shares when I ask about any pressure caused by recent unpredictable weather patterns. “Similar fall conditions will continue, but production projections show supply ramping up over Christmas week and moving forward into the new year.”
As we head into 2025, AndNowUKnow will keep you up to date on the latest opportunities in the category.
