Side Delights® Partners With Mushroom Growers to Launch “A Week’s Worth of Yum!” Promotion
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Stop me if you’ve heard this one, a potato and a mushroom walk into a bar… Finish the joke however you like because the important thing is that potatoes and mushrooms are finally hanging out, best buds, BFFs even! Side Delights® has combined these two nutrient powerhouses in a recent team-up with expert mushroom growers. The partnership includes an in-store promotion with seven original recipes for “A Week’s Worth of Yum,” along with a point-of-sale merchandiser with a tear-off recipe card featuring a URL to download the Week’s Worth of Yum e-book. With consumers seeking better nutritional value from their meals, the combo of potato and mushroom is one even the most health-conscious can get behind.
“This program is a win-win for consumers and retailers, pairing two high-nutrient vegetables in creative, delicious ways, drawing consumers in-store with eye-catching promotions and recipes," said Kathleen Triou, President and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network. “The Week's Worth of Yum in-store program is available now with target execution in stores in September for Mushroom Lovers Month. It is available only from the partners of Fresh Solutions Network and your fresh mushroom supplier.”
The new partnership teams mushrooms up with Side Delights potatoes, including Steamables™, the nation’s best-selling branded microwavable potato product line, according to the press release. Mushrooms and potatoes boast serious nutrition creds, and both fit perfectly into the growing flexitarian and plant-based lifestyles of consumers looking to include more vegetables into their diet.
Mushrooms bring a lot to the table and according to the New York Times, the fungi are free of cholesterol, low in fat and calories, and packed with minerals and vitamins, including potassium, copper, zinc, and magnesium, along with antioxidants like selenium and glutathione—an antioxidant that may help protect against some cancers.
“Mushrooms make great meals even better, whether it’s for the ever-growing ‘blenditarian’ movement to mix mushrooms with meat for healthier, more sustainable dishes—or with the iconic potato through this exciting and creative partnership with Side Delights,” said Heather Harter, Industry Communications Coordinator with the Mushroom Council. “Potatoes and mushrooms are a perfect pair, as these delicious recipes demonstrate.”
Potatoes are no joke either, nutritionally speaking, containing tons of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, along with being fat-free, sodium-free, and cholesterol-free. The spuds fit perfectly into trendy diets because a medium potato contains just 26 grams of carbohydrates—only nine percent of the recommended daily value. With one of the highest overall antioxidant activity among vegetables, potatoes contain high levels of glutathione.
