PHARR, TX - Nothing beats cracking into the new year like cracking a big melon to dig into. Healthy and nutritious resolutions are in full gear, and shoppers are keeping their eyes out for easy-to-consume products as they peruse the aisles. What’s a bigger draw to the eye than end caps filled to the brim with Super Starr International melons?

Lance Peterson, President, Super Starr International“Right now, we are harvesting Honeydew melons out of Tecomán, Colima, Mexico, and we are just beginning to have availability now through April,” Lance Peterson, President, tells me. “Volume is going to be tight, and the market is expected to be high due to fewer melons planted this season, but conditions have been ideal.”

As the company grows in Tecomán, the growing conditions have been ideal for Super Starr’s farms. The company’s crops also show really great quality so far, and with healthy mindsets taking higher precedence this time of year, demand for these green beauties should be high in addition to the grower’s other high-quality melon varieties.

“We have been growing Honeydews since 1959, and they are still grown by the same family,” Lance continues. “In addition to Honeydews, we offer Orange Canaries and Hami melons for retailers to build out their displays and have complementing colors in their aisles. They’re available during the same season as our Honeydews.”

I, for one, can’t wait to sink my teeth into these juicy offerings, and your shoppers too.
