Taylor Farms Partners With Bloom Energy, Ameresco, and Concept Clean Energy to Install Microgrid; Bruce Taylor Comments

SAN JOSE, CA - If the saying is “two is better than one,” what’s to be said about a dynamic alliance between four ambitious innovators? As it looks to take one of its California food processing facilities off the traditional energy grid, Taylor Farms has tapped Bloom Energy, Ameresco, and Concept Clean Energy to install a microgrid.

Bruce Taylor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Taylor Farms“We are looking forward to the energy stability this will provide our San Juan Bautista, California, facility,” said Bruce Taylor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Taylor Farms. “Fresh food reliability is essential for our customers, and it’s more critical than ever to provide quality, fresh foods to North Americans.”

As noted in a press release, these three energy leaders plan to combine six megawatts (MW) of Bloom fuel cells, 2MW of solar power from Concept Clean Energy, and a 2MW/4MWh battery into a microgrid that is designed to power the entire 450,000-square-foot facility in San Juan Bautista, California.

This strategic partnership will allow Taylor Farms to combine the strength of each energy expert’s technology to fulfill its power needs independently and cost-effectively. Though microgrids are typically implemented to provide power amidst outages, Taylor Farms is taking control of its energy needs, establishing price and power predictability regardless of any energy reliability challenges.

This is an extension of Taylor Farms’ ongoing relationship with Bloom Energy, and this tactical step is intended to help the provider explore opportunities to disconnect from the regional power grid amidst energy price spikes and reliability issues. Avoiding such challenges, Bloom Energy and Ameresco aim to provide always-on power for Taylor Farms.
