VINELAND, NJ - An important part of every retailer’s citrus program is knowing the ins and outs of the market. I turned to Trucco to learn about its current market insights, offerings, and more.

“We are currently working with Moroccan Mandarins and Navel oranges, and the crop quality this season appears to be strong, particularly for the Nadorcott variety,” remarked John Magna, Citrus Category Manager. “The volume of Nadorcott is down by about 30 percent, which will result in the season-ending a few weeks earlier than usual, but Navels are still arriving in good volume.”

Trucco reports that the current citrus market is in promotional volume, with prices for both Mandarins and oranges lower than expected.

“Pricing varies from season to season, and last year was a logistical nightmare. This year, market conditions were expected to be better with less volume arriving,” John added. “The market currently has good volume and attractive pricing for promotional sales of both Mandarins and Navel oranges. As Morocco wraps up its Mandarin season, Peruvian fruit will arrive with earlier varieties in mid- to late-April.”
