BENTONVILLE, AR - If money talks, Walmart continues to speak strongly for tech-driven delivery in its latest move. The retailer has teamed up with automaker Ford and Argo, a self-driving startup, to launch autonomous vehicle delivery services in multiple cities.

"This collaboration will further our mission to get products to the homes of our customers with unparalleled speed," said Tom Ward, Senior Vice President of Last Mile Delivery at Walmart in the United States, according to Reuters.

As consumer behavior continues to support delivery within two to 24 hours, the news source noted that Walmart had previously partnered with General Motor's Cruise on a self-driving delivery pilot, as well as with self-driving vehicle startups Gatik and Nuro to explore delivery through autonomous vehicles, taking steps in all directions to solve the puzzle in this next delivery frontier for retail and grocery.

Set to launch in Miami, Florida; Austin, Texas; and Washington, DC, the companies shared plans to pilot the investment later this year. With urban areas being a particular hub for ordering groceries online to be delivered alongside tech innovations already in place to anticipate customer wants and needs, coordinate with smart appliances, and enter houses when no one is home, integrating AI seems like the final piece in a handless journey from shelf to fridge.
