Whole Foods Market Introduces Pay-by-Palm Technology in Colorado

COLORADO - Flashing a wave of the palm while walking out with a cart full of groceries without ever once pulling out cash or your debit card used to be called stealing. Now, it’s a convenient and innovative shopping experience afforded to consumers by Amazon. The retail titan is rolling out its pay-by-palm technology to Whole Foods Market banners in Colorado, allowing shoppers to make quick and contactless payments with only the palm of their hand.

According to NFCW, the fresh-focused retail chain has rolled out Amazon One biometric palm-recognition technology at 11 outlets across the Denver area, adding these stores to the list of over 230 Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, Whole Foods Market, and other outlets across the United States that now support payment via Amazon One.

The retail giant began introducing its Amazon One biometric device in Amazon Go stores in Seattle in September 2020.

In July of that same year, the grocer also unveiled its Dash Cart self-checkout shopping trolleys, which was recently implemented at its SouthGlenn outlet in Centennial, Colorado. The Dash Cart tracks the items customers scan as they shop and enables them to exit the store without needing to visit a physical checkout.

How will Amazon further up the convenience across its grocery footprint? ANUK will surely report.
