Babé Farms' Matt Hiltner Comments on Current Carrot Market
CALIFORNIA - From baby to whole, and every variety and color in between, carrots are a staple in the produce aisle. With spring weather in the Northern Hemisphere inspiring consumers to add more fresh foods to their baskets, I tapped some category names to see what can be expected from the carrot category moving forward.
“Currently, our carrot supplies are looking great here in the Santa Maria Valley. The spring has been kind to us, and we are seeing excellent availability of all baby bunched carrots. Babé Farms grows six varieties of bunched carrots, including French (orange), yellow, purple, pink, white, and round (Thumbelina),” said Matt Hiltner, Marketing Coordinator at Babé Farms. “In addition, we offer hand-peeled carrots (French and mixed color) in a 5 lb ZIP bag as well as bulk, mix-color large carrots (no tops) in 25 lb sacks. With Mother’s Day on the horizon, we are pleased with where we stand not only with our carrots but our other colorful, specialty vegetables and expect strong demand in the next couple of weeks.”
As noted in PRO*ACT’s The Source for the week of May 3, 2023, the carrot market is slightly down, but quality is good, and pricing remains steady.
The report also stated that California’s Imperial Valley growing region will be going until mid- to late May.
