The California Strawberry Commission Unveils New Worker Safety Videos
WATSONVILLE, CA - As worker health and safey has been a primary challenge amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, The California Strawberry Commission (CSC) has gone above and beyond to release a new series of training videos to inform workers on easy steps they can take to protect themselves, their families, and their friends.
"People are more likely to turn lessons into habits when they are presented with simple, easy to remember messages, and these videos do exactly that with the three W’s in English, and the three M’s in Spanish and Mixtec,” said Carolyn O’Donnell, Communications Director.
The three W’s or M’s that O’Donnell refers to are the primary focus of the informational videos that the commission has released. According to a press release they are:
- Watch Your Distance/Mantenga Su Distancia
- Wear a Face Covering/Mascarillas Puestas
- Wash Your Hands/Manos Limpias
The three main points laid out by the CSC stem from guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as other public and medical health experts. The CDC emphasizes social distancing, hand washing, and the use of face masks in order to keep people safe during these uncertain times.
Reinforcing its message with easy to follow visual demonstrations and animations, the new videos present this important message in a manner that simply highlights ways to improve worker safety. The CSC has also produced and released the videos in three languages: English, Spanish, and Mixtec, so that they are easily understood by a wider demographic.
In addition to videos addressing how workers can keep themselves safe, the CSC also launched a new video featuring Peter and John Navarro, second-generation berry farmers from Watsonville, California. The growers describe methods they have used on their farms to protect their workers and things that other industry members can implement to ensure safety. The video is presented in both English and Spanish.
As industry members like the CSC continue to put in the work to keep workers and their families safe, AndNowUKnow applauds their efforts and will continue to report on the ways in which companies continue to lend a helping hand.
