BAKERSFIELD, CA - The votes are in, and one of our fellow produce industry members has been named a winner of this year’s Eat This, Not That! Food Awards. Out of more than 650 products and menu items being considered, Country Sweet Produce’s (CSP) Bako Sweet® Organic Sweet Potato Steam Bag has won the Meal-Prep Foods category for Best Healthy Starchy Side.

"Bako Sweet is at the forefront of evolving a category with the product we grow best, sweet potatoes,” noted Alexandra "Rae" Molumby, Country Sweet Produce's Marketing Manager. “We are excited to receive this award for our new organic sweet potato steam bags. We created this new product as a way for consumers to cook up a healthy meal in minutes. Our team is proud that shoppers recognize we’re a go-to fresh produce brand in the category. From the farmers to production to sales, this is a company-wide effort to bring the product to retail."

The 2022 winners are now being featured on EatThis.com, according to a press release. This is the fifth year of the Food Awards which seeks to spotlight the healthiest and tastiest new foods to hit retail and fast-food menus across the United States.

“In 2007, Eat This, Not That! started to forever change the way America eats by highlighting the best (and worst) foods at your restaurants, supermarkets, and, well, everywhere,” said Eat This, Not That! Author and Creator David Zinczenko. “We’re proud to continue our mission the last fifteen years, and with such an important annual program today.”

When noting what made CSP's offering a stand-out, Lisa Young, PhD, RDN, and one of the experts weighing in on the competition explained that "sweet potatoes are among the healthiest foods you can eat. A great side dish, it's simple to make, and full of antioxidants, fiber, and flavor."

Over 650 products and menu items were launched between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, all of which were considered in this year’s eight distinct categories highlighting popular food trends. These categories ranged from plant-based options to meal-prep helpers, dessert, and more.

CSP’s innovative Steam Bag offering provides diversification in the meal-prep category, ultimately earning the item a moment in the spotlight.

At the end, 79 products in specific subcategories earned a spot amongst the 2022 winners due to their nutrition, taste, and healthy ingredients.
