MINNETONKA, MN - Creation Gardens, a foodservice distributor also known by its trade name, What Chefs Want, has acquired Freshpack Produce. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, Creation Gardens currently distributes throughout the Midwest and Southeast. With its acquisition of Colorado-based Freshpack, it stands to reason the distributor is setting its eyes further West.

“When looking at What Chefs Want’s product and service offerings, it is a great fit for the future of Freshpack, allowing us the ability to expand our offerings with our substantial customer base and new customers that are seeking superior quality products and improved and flexible services,” stated Dave Distel, CEO, Freshpack.

According to a press release, Tonka Bay Equity Partners purchased Freshpack in 2010. Its decision to sell the business to Creation Gardens aligned with its desire to grow value-added distribution companies.

“Freshpack’s broad customer base and product portfolio was an ideal fit for What Chefs Want,” said Peter Kooman, Freshpack Chairman and Tonka Bay Partner.
