Fresh Del Monte Produce Reveals Ambitious 2030 Goals in 2020 Sustainability Report; Hans Sauter Discusses
MIAMI, FL - With sustainability and environmental protection serving as the driving force behind many critical advancements in the industry, Fresh Del Monte Produce has revealed the ways in which it is working toward creating A Brighter World Tomorrow™ with the release of its 2020 Sustainability Report. The report details the company’s admirable commitment to providing healthy choices for consumers while minimizing harmful impacts on the Earth and includes a list of Fresh Del Monte’s ambitious goals for 2030.
“We are very proud of the steps we’ve taken, and are taking to create a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient food system,” said Hans Sauter, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Fresh Del Monte. “However, what brings me the most joy is that our programs are truly born out of passion, starting at the ground level, literally and figuratively, with every team member taking an active role in advancing our efforts. Without our team members, we wouldn’t stand a chance. This Sustainability Report is the mosaic of all the contributions our team members around the globe are living every single day.”
Fresh Del Monte utilizes a holistic approach to regenerative agriculture to thrive alongside its local ecosystems and communities by increasing soil health, carbon sequestration, ecosystem services, water availability, and quality throughout its operations and watersheds, according to a company release, taking its efforts beyond its operations to create multifunctional, resilient landscapes. As highlighted in the report, Fresh Del Monte has surpassed two of its 2025 sustainability goals as it works toward achieving several other outlined objectives.
As it continues to innovate to achieve these goals, the company has revealed more ambitions for 2030, including implementing regenerative and soil health management practices in 100 percent of owned and associate growers’ farms; reducing food loss and organic waste sent to landfills by 50 percent; and reducing virgin plastic usage by 25 percent on purchased consumer packaging compared with its 2020 baseline.
