Grimmway Farms Details Cal-Organic Potato Program; Bob Borda Shares
BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Cal-Organic potato program is off to a great start for Grimmway Farms, with cooler-than-expected May through June temperatures providing outstanding growing weather. With organic red, gold, Russet, and Fingerling potato crops in storage, you can expect outstanding quality across all four varieties now through the start of Cal-Organic’s summer Columbia Basin crop that is slated for harvest this October.
“As the local fresh organic potato market concludes, we anticipate good demand and strong market pricing now through the start of the Northwest potato program,” Bob Borda, Vice President of Cal-Organic Sales, told me. “Cal-Organic is well planned and situated to support your organic potato needs for the next few months. The addition of a larger Columbia Basin organic potato crop provides the ability to ship both colored organic potatoes and organic Russet potatoes year-round from our state-of-the-art potato storage facility.”
Grimmway’s one-stop shop availability provides its customers the opportunity to load all Cal-Organic products—carrots, potatoes, onions, and vegetables—at one location. This provides both time and cost savings to the company’s customer base.
From the start of Cal-Organic’s winter desert program through the completion of its greater Bakersfield, California, area spring crop, the supplier has experienced solid yields and quality.
“We continually trial new organic-colored varieties to provide more vibrant color and sizing throughout the pack. In addition to our developing-colored varieties, we have expanded our organic UTE Russet program over the past few years,” Bob continued. “This unique variety yields an heirloom style Russet potato characterized by a heavy net, chocolate skin color, with a white fluffy flesh. This potato provides a one-of-a-kind eating experience.”
In addition to its premium quality potatoes, Cal-Organic can offer key category insights in support of developing its customers’ organic potato programs.
“Upon request, we will work closely with our customers to develop comprehensive promotional planners to further drive sales within the category,” Bob noted. “Please reach out to your Cal-Organic sales representative for additional information.”
