Jaime García Shares Kingdom Fresh Produce's New Sweet Mini Pepper Program and More
DONNA, TX - Kingdom Fresh Produce is kicking off 2020 to great applause. As demand for year-round, high-quality fresh produce accelerates across buying platforms, the company has introduced a new program for sweet mini peppers to support its competitive line of fresh produce from Mexico and the feedback has been phenomenal.
"The industry continues to generate excitement around sweet mini peppers as consumers' desire for both health and flavor impacts the grocery basket," General Manager Jaime García shares. "We work closely with our retail partners to address their needs and provide value and excellence for their fresh produce programs."
In addition, cucumbers have been a total success this year for the company, with very high markets in the last quarter.
"We are also promoting our organic program strongly. Demand on organic Romas has grown extensively over the past eighteen months so we decided to expand on the acreage for this item specifically," Jaime says.
Currently, Kingdom Fresh is harvesting from Torreón, Puebla, Querétaro, and rolling into Culiacán. Later in April, the company will move into Obregón.
"For the past eight weeks, the supply of all tomatoes has been tight, creating an abnormal market with very high prices. Weather played an important factor in December, affecting the upcoming January crops. To this day, we finally have a better supply channel and prices will go into their normal range," Jaime reflects, adding that timing is a bit off, as typically by the 10th of January tomato crops are in full production.
By November, the cucumber season has usually started without problems but the late rain in December damaged the fields, Jaime adds.
Despite the challenges put forth by Mother Nature, Kingdom Fresh is innovating ahead and has a very dynamic system in its packinghouse that allows the company to have the flexibility for the different sectors that it targets.
"Our customers have different needs, so we supply everything from large bulk packages for foodservice to small clamshells for home delivery businesses, and more. If our client has an idea that could save plastic, freight, or space in their shelves, we will work with them to find a solution," Jaime wraps up.
To help ease the travel miles, everything for Kingdom Fresh ships out of the company's Donna, Texas, distribution center.
