Pacific Trellis Fruit Adds Specialty Plum Varieties; Dan Carapella Jr. and Tim Davis Share
LOS ANGELES, CA - The countdown is on at Pacific Trellis Fruit as the supplier waits for the arrival of its four new imported specialty plum varieties. Straight from Chile and South Africa, the stonefruit will hit the United States next month and will be unveiled in 2 lb clamshells under the Dulcinea® brand.
“Our imported specialty plums are shaking up the category,” mentioned Dan Carapella Jr., Director of Special Projects and Senior Sales Executive of Pacific Trellis Fruit. “The wildly sweet and juicy plums are available for a limited time through mid-March/April.”
These plums are sure to grab attention with new high-graphic labels that will pop when put on display in the produce aisle, a release explained.
The four varieties include:
- Lemon Plums: Grown in Chile and South Africa. They are yellow-skinned and turn bright red when ripe
- Extra Sweet Plums: Also grown in Chile and South Africa. They vary in appearance from bright and dark red to having a red/yellowish skin
- Watermelon Plums: Grown in South Africa. They feature green skin with red flesh, similar to a watermelon
- Sugar Plums: Produced in Chile. They have red and purple skin with a golden-yellow flesh
“We are excited to offer the specialty plum program to customers,” says Tim Davis, Category Coordinator, Stone Fruit for Pacific Trellis Fruit. “The varieties offer a unique merchandising opportunity, capturing incremental sales opportunities for the winter plum category.”
