Walmart Prepares for Holiday Rush With 150,000-Employee Hiring Spree; Julie Murphy Shares
BENTONVILLE, AR - With pumpkins already decorating doorsteps (including my own), there is no doubt that the holiday season is coming. Walmart is getting ready for the influx of demand knocking at its door, as the retailer is launching a hiring spree in hopes of bringing on roughly 150,000 new U.S. employees.
“We’re always looking to add great talent to our incredible team of dedicated associates, the everyday heroes who have been a constant force for good in their communities amidst the uncertainty of the past year,” wrote Julie Murphy, Chief People Officer, in a company release. “Before we know it, millions of customers will count on our team to help find those great gifts and holiday meals, and we’ll be ready.”
Walmart has positioned itself as an employer of choice, investing in significant wage increases over the past year, making more full-time positions available, and offering extra hours during the holidays. The retailer’s U.S. hourly wage is $16.40, and employees are promoted to higher-paying roles within an average of seven months. On-the-job and classroom training is available, as well as competitive benefits.
“In addition to the 150,000 new associates in stores, we’ve also announced plans to hire 20,000 associates in our supply chain facilities to permanent roles,” Murphy continued. “We also have a number of great opportunities within our office, which you can apply for at careers.walmart.com.”
As many across the supply chain continue to face pandemic-related labor challenges, ANUK will be watching to see how Walmart’s current hiring spree supports the upcoming holiday rush.
