Addie's Opens Drive-Up Grocery Store With Plans for Expansion; Jim McQuade Comments
NORWOOD, MA - As the grocery convenience sector continues to boom, Addie’s is redefining the retail experience with drive-up grocery stores. Backed by $10.1 million in funding, the retailer has launched its first concept store in Norwood, Massachusetts.
"We believe that taking better care of busy families should be done in a way that also takes care of our team, our community, and our planet," said Jim McQuade, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Addie's. "With our seed funding, we've built an end-to-end experience to serve people in and around Norwood in a way that can be replicated in suburbs nationwide. We look forward to quickly expanding, offering busy families across the country drive-up grocery convenience without compromise."
The newly built 22,000-square-foot store is now open and features a curated selection of national brands and local favorites, a release stated. Instead of bringing together in-store grocery, online grocery, and direct-to-consumer delivery models, Addie’s has created a new pick-up-only store designed for stocking, storing, and bagging groceries without shoppers ever having to make a trip inside the location.
As detailed in the release, Mercatus predicts that online grocery shopping will double to more than $200 billion by 2026, creating a large window of opportunity for retailers to expand their services. Or in the case of Addie’s, create entirely new ones.
The unique grocer has reimagined every aspect of grocery shopping, from inventory management to store layout, enabling accurate and affordable grocery pick-up in minutes. Consumers purchase groceries through Addie's custom app or website and choose a pick-up window that works best for their schedules.
Through its approach, Addie’s is able to save time, money, and resources which translates to higher starting wages for its store associates. It also enables the retailer to maintain competitive pricing for consumers, as it uses just a quarter of the energy required for regular supermarkets.
