Albertsons Opening New Division in Malvern, Pennsylvania
MALVERN, PA - Retailers have gotten extremely creative in their expansion efforts as of late, launching everything from new hires to mergers and acquisitions into high gear. Albertsons sneakily released its latest plans this week, teasing the upcoming merger of Acme Markets and its Eastern division to form a new Mid-Atlantic division.
According to Philadelphia Business Journal, the new division will be headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and oversee 275 surrounding stores. A distribution center in Denver, PA, and the relocation of its Maryland warehouse to a 1.4 million square-foot facility will also be part of this monumental streamline of operations.
“It is too soon to know how many people will be actually located in Malvern office and who will be stationed in the smaller satellite office,” said Dana Ward, Communications and Public Affairs Manager, estimating that roughly 280 employees will be involved. “We probably won’t know that until mid-August.”
The news source went on to note that a smaller regional office will remain in Washington, DC, while one store in Montgomery County, PA, has officially closed to support this transformation.
“Closing a store is always a tough decision, but we are focused on growing our business and reinvesting those resources into our existing stores along with aggressively exploring other new sites,” Ward said.
