Aldi US Expands California Presence with 15 New Stores
CALIFORNIA - As the great late Tupac Shakur once said, “California knows how to Aldi”—or maybe that was his produce alter-ego. I get them confused sometimes. As part of its $3.4 billion, 700-store expansion plan, Aldi is making itself at home in Southern California with 15 new store locations underway for 2019.
“We plan to open 15 stores in 2019, including Panorama City. That will bring the total to 78. With this growth, we’ll be looking to hire 450 employees,” said Tom Cindel, Head of Operations and Logistics for Aldi’s Moreno Valley division, according to the Press-Telegram. “As the demand for Aldi grows, so do our real estate options. Bottom line, we want to be conveniently located for our shoppers.”
The first California location that will open this year will be the Panorama City store, making it Aldi’s 64th in the Golden State. The retailer has not revealed where the 14 other shops will be anchored.
The news source reports that Aldi currently operates more than 1,800 U.S. stores and employs 32,300 workers in 35 states. As part of its $3.4 billion investment, the retailer hopes to add 25,000 workers to its employee roster and bring its store count up to 2,500 nationwide by 2022.
