PHARR, TX - The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations at the Pharr International Bridge have once again come to the rescue of fresh produce as they intercepted a tractor/trailer carrying alleged methamphetamine worth $11,618,000. The suspected drugs were found on November 13, hidden within a load of fresh broccoli.

“Our officers working at the commercial facility in Pharr accomplished this discovery of methamphetamine through an effective use of all available tools and resources. These narcotics did not cross the border and will never inflict harm on our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

Upon arriving at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, a CBP officer referred the vehicle for further inspection, during which non-intrusive imaging uncovered 330 packages of suspected methamphetamine, according to a press release. The alleged narcotics were discovered hidden within the trailer’s floor and weighed in at 236.5 kg (581 pounds). Officers seized the drugs, and the case now remains under investigation.

We once again owe a debt of gratitude to officers at the Pharr International Bridge who continue to keep criminals from using fresh produce as a guise for illegal actions.
