Dan Valenzuela Named New President of Safeway's Eastern Division
BOISE, ID – Dan Valenzuela has been named the new President of Safeway’s Eastern Division by its parent company, Albertsons.
Valenzuela is stepping into the top position for the retailer in that region, effective immediately, according to the Washington Business Journal, replacing Steve Burnham. Prior to the promotion, Valenzuela headed up the company’s Phoenix Division and previously served as Vice President of Operations. Most recently he has been President of the Seattle Division since 2014, the culmination of working with the company since 1977, when he began as a courtesy clerk.
He has taken on leadership roles within the company since 1981 when he was promoted to Store Manager, and has managed districts and more since 1991.
According to the report, a Safeway spokesperson said Thursday evening Burnham, and fellow executive former VP of Operations for the Eastern Division Dean Willhite, are currently looking to other positions within Safeway.
Most recently, we reported that Safeway announced the launch of a pilot grocery delivery program in Denver, CO, due to the high frequency in requests from consumers.
With changeups in leadership, and other moves in the works, what can we expect from the retailer in the near future? AndNowUKnow will report as more information is announced.
