General Produce Names Dan Achondo, Jr. as Head of Retail Development; Jeff Sacchini Comments
SACRAMENTO, CA - Dan Achondo, Jr. will be taking up the post once more, this time at General Produce. The premier wholesale distributor of fresh produce and specialty products tapped Achondo, Jr. to join its organization, welcoming the longtime industry veteran and former Director of Procurement and equity stakeholder of NorCal Produce (now United Natural Foods, Inc.).
“I grew up in the family produce business, working with both my father and brother,” stated Achondo, Jr. “Once it’s in your blood, it’s difficult to ignore that passion and excitement, and I’ve missed that the last three years. Having the opportunity to join an industry-leading company like General Produce will allow me the opportunity to resume my work passion and lead the charge in expanding the footprint of the ever-evolving retail landscape in Northern California and beyond.”
Achondo, Jr. is coming out of retirement to head up retail development for General Produce. As noted in the release, he has procurement acumen with both conventional and organic produce, fresh floral products, and specialty items, which all fuel strong consumer demand at the retail level.
“Moving into our brand-new, state-of-the-art office complex and warehouse facility in March of 2022, we now can focus and execute on our strategic market objectives,” said Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Sacchini. “Dan Jr. has the talent and skilled expertise to lead and grow our retail segment through his many years of serving and managing local grocery stores. He’s the right cultural fit to expand further and significantly grow our retail presence.”
General Produce has a 90-year history of serving retail markets throughout the western United States. From multi-store national retail chains to military store commissaries, smaller independent markets, and specialty stores, the product offerings and merchandising services leverage a competitive advantage for its retail customers.
“We’re really pleased that we made the decision a few years ago to invest in one of the most advanced refrigerated warehouses on the West Coast that actually has the capacity to deliver to more retail establishments in our geographical delivery area,” continued Sacchini. “With Dan Jr. on board, we’re in an excellent position to capitalize on those unique opportunities.”
Welcome back, Dan Achondo, Jr.!
