MCALLEN, TX - Consumers continue to find a trusted friend in the bell pepper category—especially those who crave a pepper’s unique crunch without the spice. GR Fresh’s distinguished bell pepper program is now ramping up, meaning consumers will soon have a fresh selection of the veg at their local grocer.

“We are just scratching the surface of our bell pepper season,” said Tony Incaviglia, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our supply of smaller sized offerings is heavy while larger sized varieties are light. These supplies are available for the early open market, as most growers are covering contract commitments during start up.”

GR Fresh grows its bell peppers in Los Mochis and Culiacán, Sinaloa, during the winter months and Parras Valley, Coahuila, Mexico, during the summer. According to Tony, growing conditions have been relatively uninterrupted, although recently the company has seen some colder temperatures impacting growth and slowing production down a bit.

“Due to the cooler temperatures and contract commitments consuming most of the Jumbo, XLG, and large sized bell pepper supplies, open market sizing has been steady in the $16 to $14 range with medium, choice, and chopper pricing ranging from $12 to $8,” Tony continued.

On a final note, Tony explained that GR Fresh’s bell pepper quality has met all retail specifications and will continue to improve. No promotional volumes are available at this point, and the market seems steady as inventories continue to move and keep supplies fresh.
