Harris Teeter's Mark Hilton, Vice President of Produce Merchandising, Announces Retirement
MATTHEWS, NC - Five decades, 50 years, a half-century—no matter how you phrase it, it’s a long time in any industry, and it's nearly how long Mark Hilton, Vice President of Produce Merchandising for Harris Teeter, has been in retail. With 47 years under his belt, the leader announced he will retire on November 30, 2022.
“My merchandising team and our store associates,” said Hilton when asked what his biggest achievement has been during his tenure. “I have had the good fortune to learn this business from some very good operators. They invested in me, and I have worked hard to pay that forward by passing on that knowledge and passion to our associates. I will definitely miss them and that daily interaction. I also relish all the business relationships I have made over the years, many of which have turned into great friendships.”
Hilton started his career with Harris Teeter in 1992 when he came on as Manager of Produce Merchandising, a release relayed. He was then promoted to Director of Produce and Floral in 1995 and, in 2001, was named Vice President of Produce and Floral.
In 1975, he began his grocery career at Safeway as a Courtesy Clerk, working his way up in various retail stores. Throughout his time in the industry, he has held a wide array of roles, including Category Manager, Field Buyer, Merchandising Manager, and Corporate Trainer.
With all of his experience, Hilton became instrumental in the development and rebranding of Harris Teeter’s produce departments and HT Farmers Market. He helped build a robust local and regional produce program and developed the company’s Green Thumb Expert training program for its produce associates.
Outside of his role at Harris Teeter, Hilton is involved in the produce industry and his community, serving on various United Fresh, PMA, Produce for Better Health, and FMI advisory Boards throughout his career. He was also very involved in the formation of the Southeast Produce Council, serving as its first President.
Cheers to Mark Hilton as he hangs up his produce hat and enjoys retirement!
