Index Fresh Offers Support for Cinco de Mayo Promotions; Bobby Fingerlin Details
CORONA, CA - Let’s discuss one of the many holidays that transforms the produce department into an absolute party: Cinco de Mayo. The holiday presents an exceptional boon for the avocado category, and Index Fresh is helping its retail partners capitalize on this surefire surge in momentum.
"Pricing this year is about 50 percent less than last year, which has allowed for sharper retail pricing which benefits the industry but most importantly the consumer," says Bobby Fingerlin, Sales and Business Development, diving into some of the details of the current market. "Last year, the industry was shipping 42–46 million pounds per week leading up to Cinco de Mayo. This year, with improved supplies, widened size curve, and more promotable pricing, I think we could see shipments in the range of 52–56 million pounds per week. As California volume continues to ramp up, the pressure on the supply out of Mexico will ease, allowing for promotions in May and throughout the summer."
Quality and volume for avocados are in great shape, as Index Fresh shares. Mexico is currently producing volumes that will allow for promotions, and California is also ramping up with incredible quality and volume.
“Cinco de Mayo is a great time to promote avocados because the holiday is a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage. This holiday falls at a great time of the year. With summer just around the corner, Cinco de Mayo is a great way to get a jump start on the season,” Bobby adds.
To help take advantage of this lucrative window, Index Fresh offers an array of retail support leading up to Cinco de Mayo promotions, including promotional pricing and point-of-sale material.
