Mucci Farms' Joe Spano Discusses Portfolio and Operational Growth Ahead of Southern Exposure

ONTARIO, CANADA - I am always fascinated by the moments in which a challenge becomes a catalyst for growth, and this happens often within our industry. Despite challenges posed by the pandemic and other pressures within the supply chain, Mucci Farms has overcome these hurdles, bringing key developments to its operations and portfolio along the way.

Joe Spano, Partner and Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Mucci Farms“Throughout the pandemic, we have been hyper-focused on reinforcing the fundamental promises that make us the best at what we do,” explains Joe Spano, Partner and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our team dug in their heels and used these unique circumstances as a time to establish new processes and protocols to address current and potential external pressures going forward. These initiatives build trust between ourselves and our partners as we reinforce our commitment to finding efficient solutions in an everchanging business environment.”

With recent expansions in Ontario, British Columbia, as well as California, Mucci Farms is able to more easily meet the needs of its retail partners and mitigate some of the challenges impacting the supply chain.

With a heightened focus on innovation across all aspects of its vertically integrated organization, Mucci Farms is revamping its brand portfolio with new products and packaging, along with a series of redesigns to increase attention at the store level

“Over the last 15 months, our new facilities have served our retail partners very well,” continues Joe. “With supply chain issues and unforeseen circumstances at border crossings, our new distribution centers and growing operations in Michigan, Ohio, and most recently, California, have mitigated the impact of these challenges and helped us expand our coverage area to service customers coast to coast.”

In addition to its growth in the United States, Mucci Farms also recently completed a 30-acre expansion of bell peppers to accommodate growing demand across all colors and varieties. With a heightened focus on innovation across all aspects of its vertically integrated organization, the supplier is revamping its brand portfolio with new products and packaging, along with a series of redesigns to increase attention at the store level.

“Typically, when we enter a new market, we lean on traditional homerun items such as tomatoes on-the-vine and long english cucumbers, as the demand is usually high and steady for those items,” Joe notes. “We have since diversified our U.S.-grown portfolio to include a number of specialities across all commodities as the snacking category continues to make big gains across the continent. This strategic focus will be front and center as we continue to expand our footprint in the U.S. to meet various retailer needs from products to packaging.”

As these recent expansions guide Mucci Farms to even further growth in the industry, their team will be on-hand at booth #903 at Southeast Produce Council's Southern Exposure 2022 in Orlando, Florida, from March 3-5. The supplier will be highlighting eight signature items as well as its new Linerless Label packaging series that bolsters the company's commitment to offering innovative plastic-free solutions.
