Paul Catania of Catania Worldwide Shares Details of California Fig Program
MADERA, CA - As we look ahead to late summer and early fall promotions, figs will figure prominently in retail programs. The sweet honeyed taste is a welcome addition to everything from desserts to charcuterie boards. To see what’s in store for the California fig crop, I turned to Catania Worldwide President Paul Catania.
“We have begun second crop figs. The Green Sierra variety should end in mid to late September. Brown and black varieties should last through the end of October to mid-November, weather permitting,” Paul said, giving me the rundown on current programs.
Paul remarked that ads are already available, so those buyers looking to get figs in their rotation should look no farther than Catania.
On that front, I asked Paul what makes the supplier such a solid retail partner.
“Catania Worldwide has our own ranches, and our growers are still in regular production. There will not be any interruption in production and service. By managing our fruit from the ground up, it affords us a greater deal of control over costing and quality. That is the great advantage in dealing with us,” Paul emphasized.
