Ray Connelly Details Procurant's Strategic Advantage, Differentiation, and Retail Prowess

WATSONVILLE, CA - Nimble, agile, and enterprising—these words immediately come to mind when I think of Procurant, a technology company innovating the way retailers procure, manage, and transport fresh produce from the vendor to the department floor.

Ray Connelly, Vice President of Strategy, ProcurantProcurant is built to evolve with the growing needs of today’s retailers and foodservice operators,” Ray Connelly, Vice President of Strategy, shares with me as we connect between his early morning meetings. “The technology that was available 20, 15, even 10 years ago may still work along our current food supply chain, but it no longer offers the high-level of advantages and solutions that today’s buying operations demand to drive the safety, efficiency, and visibility necessary to compete in a challenging and dynamic marketplace.”

As I listen to Ray speak, his words leave the impression that Procurant is synonymous with both growth and adaptability. And not just for growth's and adaptability’s sake, but because the team at Procurant believes in its ability to listen intently to what is missing in today’s platforms while identifying what is preventing sustainable and long-term success for its customers. This intense and intentional research has allowed it to build a bridge to better strategy and execution for customers.

Built to evolve alongside the growing needs of today’s retailers and foodservice operators, Procurant continues to innovate the way its partners procure, manage, and transport fresh produce

Just take some of its recent moves. If Albertsons selecting Procurant for its perishable ordering management is not testament enough to the technology company’s industriousness, the operation has also partnered with Uber Freight US, aiming to provide an innovative shipping option for retailers and suppliers of fresh produce.

“We make the procurement process more cost-effective, streamlined, and accessible, which deeply aligns with our goals to ensure that fresh food makes it safely and effortlessly to its destination,” Ray tells me. “Giving retailers and foodservice operators one place, one dashboard, where they can manage all of their internal procurement systems allows our customers to refocus and reinvest in their operations in new and exciting ways.”

Far from a marketplace that can lack exclusivity, Procurant prides itself and has proven effective at being able to build deep relationships with its clients and tailor its solutions to encompass tenets and processes around some of the most nebulous concepts in fresh food.

One key advantage for Procurant lies in its ability to listen intently to what is missing in today’s platforms while identifying what is preventing sustainable and long-term success for its customers

We can standardize a data model inside of our platform that supports food safety records, traceability records, quality control records, logistics, and transactions, so that we can then build additional value around this sort of exclusive relationship that happens between them,” Ray expresses, helping me understand the breadth and depth of the solutions-based company. “Fresh food and perishables do not have the same formula for effectively building purchase orders as center store and CPG items, and so our industry needs specificity and thought-leadership that can actually execute. That is where we continue to come in.”

While some may say that Procurant is the new kid on the block, I’d rather package them as something a bit more limitless, a bit more hungry, and definitely wise in the total years of experience the executive team has brought together. This is not a new arena for the Procurant team members, it is simply a new, and now proven, solution—one which is gathering major market share and attention.
