Sun World International Names Bernardo Calvo as President and Chief Operating Officer; David Marguleas Comments
BAKERSFIELD, CA - Sun World International is adding a wealth of global expertise to its leadership ranks. The table grape provider has announced Bernardo Calvo as its newest President and Chief Operating Officer, reporting to Chief Executive Officer David Marguleas.

No other fruit breeder has this advantage and insight, and I’m ready to further enhance the strategies, while learning from new colleagues. Calvo spent much of his industry career with Monsanto Company, which is now part of Bayer AG. According to a release, he held significant leadership roles across multiple countries while there.
The leader was born and raised in Colombia and has lived in the United States for the past decade. Calvo served as Monsanto’s CEO in Southern Latin America, where he improved market share in a meaningful way while managing a workforce of over 7,000 people. His regional expertise will bolster his ability to help Sun World’s LATAM licensees.
“One of our mantras at Sun World is that we innovate boldly and commercialize carefully, and the same goes for hiring,” Marguleas said. “This was a position I created and have been looking to fill for quite some time, taking the time needed to find the right fit. Among his many Sun World management responsibilities, Bernardo will work with the commercial team to enhance our processes and the end-to-end product pipeline—all in service to our licensees.
