SPRINGFIELD, VA - Springfield, Virginia, marks the location of Whole Foods Market’s newest store, as the grocer is carrying out a strategic plan to relocate its existing store in the city. The new 49,499-square-foot store will open on October 4, continuing the company’s 25 years of service to the community.

The new store will feature an array of certified organic, conventional, and Sourced for Good produce; this includes offerings from 14 local farms such as apple totes from Hess Brother’s Fruit Company, Asian pears from Mountain View Orchards, and microgreens from AeroFarms.

The store also welcomes shoppers to an expanded prepared foods section featuring fresh sushi, made-to-order sandwiches, a full-service deli, three self-serve food bars, and a self-serve pizza station with vegan and alternative flour crust options.

As a press release explained, the new location nearly doubles the size of the original store, allowing Whole Foods Market to offer Springfield customers more amenities, such as an expanded product assortment that includes more than 600 local items sourced with the help of Daniela D’Ambrosio, a Local Forager for Whole Foods Market.

Each of the products offered at the store must meet the company’s rigorous Quality Standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and more than 260 flavors, colors, sweeteners, and other ingredients commonly found in food.
