24 Carrot Liqueur brings Produce to Happy Hour
NETHERLANDS - No longer are veggies to be drank exclusively in smoothies and juices. Produce is quickly making a name for itself in bars around the world, not as a garnish or even a mixer, but as the main source for something other than vitamins.
Veggies are hitting up happy hour.
Smithsonian.com reported that a Dutch distillery called Wenneker has released a carrot liqueur that is definitely not your average carrot juice. Measuring in at 24 percent alcohol per volume, the description the company lists makes me think of something that would have come from my grandma’s garden, but that my grandpa would give me just to see my face.
“Wenneker 24 Carrot Liqueur is an innovation in the alcoholic drinks market; think of carrots, freshly picked from sandy soil on an early summer-morning,” the distillery lists in its description. “This is the experience you will recognise when you try Wenneker 24 Carrot Liqueur. The crisp taste reminds you of soil and grass and brings you back to mother earth.”
The liqueur is described to smell strongly and sweetly of carrots, with a crispy sweet and slightly tangy body. Unlike the carrot beer we previously reported on, which was purposely a luminescent orange, this is described as a cloudy but vibrant orange.
Wenneker seems to have an affinity for making veggies the star of the bar, so-to-speak; it also has a Red Rhubarb liqueur, described as refreshing while adding a sweet and sour bite to the glass.
If this is a trend that continues its way into the States, as many bar options and ideas do, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere” may soon be something this industry can add to its marketing repertoire.
