The Chef’s Garden Hosts Roots Regenerate 2023 Conference; Lee Jones Comments
HURON, OH - We are fresh off the heels of the Roots Regenerate 2023 conference, hosted by The Chef’s Garden in Huron, Ohio! Bringing an eventful extravaganza to the culinary world, this year’s Roots Regenerate—themed “Regenerate”—celebrated the industry's triumphant resurgence from the pandemic's adversity.
"The Roots Conference was conceived with a mission to nourish not only exceptional ingredients but also to cultivate knowledge, forge connections, and unite in a shared commitment to elevating the culinary world,” said Farmer Lee Jones, Co-Host and driving force behind Roots Regenerate. “The challenges of 2020 had cast a shadow over our industry, forcing the closure of beloved restaurants, businesses, and the loss of dear colleagues, friends, and family. Emerging from this crucible, we rallied together to nurture our regenerative journeys."
Roots Regenerate 2023 saw a gathering of over 200 culinary luminaries, including chefs, farmers, academics, food scientists, journalists, and research and development experts. During the event, several keynote speakers delivered invaluable insights, including:
- Brandon Chrostowski of EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant Institute emphasized the vital role of social responsibility within hospitality, declaring, "Perfect practice makes perfect"
- Maneet Chauhan, from Morph Hospitality Group, shared her journey of resurgence, underscoring, "There are no shortcuts to success," and highlighting the importance of creativity and adaptability
- Michael Voltaggio, in tandem with Maneet Chauhan, championed the cause of community commitment, stating, "We must learn to take care of each other; we are in an era of regenerating hospitality”
- David Kinch of Manresa delved into the integration of sustainability into fine dining, accentuating the significance of seasonality and premium ingredients
The conference also explored pressing subjects such as mental health within the foodservice industry, the future landscape of restaurants, crafting unparalleled hospitality experiences, and the resilience of small farmers, ranchers, and chefs in the face of systemic challenges, a press release explained.
In addition to providing a vibrant platform for networking, learning, and collaboration, the event also included the screening of the Food and Country documentary, which unveiled the inspiring narratives of passionate changemakers reshaping the culinary landscape.
