LOS ALAMITOS, CA - Two is better than one. This is the motto this summer as Frieda’s brings not one, but two tropical favorites to the produce department: lychees and rambutans. To truly make the most out of both categories, the specialty provider is advising grocers to carry these popular items together throughout the summer season.

“Lychees and rambutans make a powerful statement together and act as a draw for shoppers that may be hunting for something new to try,” said Alex Jackson, Director of Sales. “Just like carrying multiple colors of grapes or several kinds of berries, when shoppers see a display of rambutans and lychees, they are more likely to pick up both—which drives the increase in total units per store per week.”

The purveyor’s coveted Rambas® Rambutans have already made it to market, bringing a delicious sweetness with tart notes for balance. According to a press release, limited-edition lychees from Mexico are also arriving, with the crop showing deep red skin; sweet, floral notes; and bright, crisp flesh.

Carrying these items alongside each other provides buyers with a generous boost in sales, as retailers that carried both lychees and rambutans at the same time sold 70 percent more dollars per store on average than those that carried just one of these products. Witnessing almost 90 percent growth across these categories over the previous year, these retailers sold three times more units compared to retailers that only carried one of the two tropical fruits.

With this dynamic duo carving out lucrative opportunities in the produce department, Frieda’s is armed and ready with the spiky fruits in stock, readying to make the tropical fruit category a prime summer destination.
