BRIMFIELD, MA – A tractor trailer carrying potatoes eastbound on a busy stretch of the Massachusetts Turnpike overturned this Wednsday, smashing spuds and delaying traffic throughout the morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:00 AM Wednesday morning, according to local news source the Worcester Telegram. State police told the news source that the operation was “quite involved,” as heavy duty wreckers worked diligently to avoid puncturing the rig and spilling potatoes across Interstate 90.

Crews had hoped to clear traffic shortly before noon, but a second four-car crash resulting from the traffic backup delayed the operation. No one was injured in the first accident, and only one person received minor injuries as a result of the second crash.
