Truck Spills 40,000 Pounds of Lettuce Onto the Freeway
WATERFORD, CT – Travelers of a particular New England stretch of freeway were treated to a new kind of tossed salad earlier this week, as a big rig spilled its load. The incident ended up scattering around 40,000 pounds of lettuce all over the roadway and halting traffic.
State police reported that the aforementioned tractor trailer lost control around 3 a.m. on Monday morning, according to news source WTNH. The truck rolled over, exposing its contents to the gravely ground.
The truck laid on its side until 5 a.m., when The Department of Consumer Protection responded to the incident. Once the incident was assessed, authorities decided that the trailer's leafy passengers must come off of the truck so the travelway could be cleared and traffic restored.
Clean up of the incident took nearly ten hours, with traffic remaining slowed and heavy as workers immersed themselves in green. The spill, the truck, and the obstruction were successfully cleared by 3 p.m. that same day.
Will lettuce find itself the dancing partner of the open road again soon? AndNowUKnow will report.
