Cafe Introduces Avocado Latte to Millennial Hipster Delight
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - The zenith of millennial hipster trends has arrived.
According to Newsweek, a rabble rousing Australian café made a worldwide splash when its Instagram post, spinning off of the generational obsession with avocados and coffee, went viral. The Melbourne-based Truman Cafe Instagram post depicted the “avolatte,” a rather silly latte served up in a hollowed out avocado.
"It was actually just a joke," Jaydin Nathan, a barista at Truman Cafe, told News.com.au. "We weren't actually selling them, but then someone came in today and wanted one. I think it's ridiculous. It's literally coffee in a piece of rubbish."
The drink, initially perceived to be a serious menu offering, caused a collective global groan from incredulous onlookers, wary of tiresome hipster trends like avocado toast. The post was quickly revealed to be a bit of a joke, but not long after consumers flocked to the shop looking to indulge in the obnoxious treat and the cafe accommodated its wanting customers.
On Monday, Nathan confirmed to Australian Associated Press that the café was actually selling the avolatte, including four that day at the same price as a regular coffee.
We love avocados as much as the next produce professional, and while our office takes what we can get for coffee, we’re not sure if this is a bit of a disservice to the beloved chartreuse fruit?
Will this tongue-in-cheek trend catch on? It’s not our cup of tea (or coffee), but we won’t complain if it does!
