South Texas Onion Committee Seeks New Members
MISSION, TX - The South Texas Onion Committee (STOC) is actively seeking producers and handlers as nominees to the committee’s District 1 position—covering the Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley region.
"The STOC plays an important role in ensuring producers and handlers get the best price for their products. We are always looking for new industry members to sit on the committee, keeping the energy-level high and bringing new ideas,” said Manager Dante Galeazzi.
The Committee stated in a press release that it is strongly encouraging women and minority candidates in the industry to apply.
"I would like to encourage the onion industry to get involved," noted Chairman Steve Cargil, an onion grower himself. "Without enforceable standards, any and all onions could be shipped making it difficult to get the best price possible for high quality Texas onions. Our onion marketing order helps create a level playing field."
The Committee plays a key role in inspecting Texas onions for consistent grade and size standards.
The STOC nomination will take place alongside a budget meeting on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Texas International Produce Association (TIPA) office in Mission.
