PHARR, Texas — Last week, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) discovered 3,086 pounds of alleged marijuana within a commercial trailer carrying mixed vegetables across the Pharr International Bridge.

“Our officers’ diligence continues to prevail. We continue to keep our communities safe by preventing significant loads of narcotics from entering our country, like this one,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, in a press release.

After a blue 1998 tractor trailer was intercepted and referred for a secondary inspection by CBP officers assigned to the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility on February 3, officers and a canine team extracted 1,304 packages of alleged marijuana, valued at approximately $617,288, hidden between an array of fresh vegetables.

The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
