CARLISLE, PA – Nothing makes the new year special quite like a new store. GIANT Food Stores announced its exciting plans to open the first GIANT Heirloom Market™ on Friday, January 25, 2019. The store boasts a new store concept, format, and assortment specially curated for urban neighborhoods. It will also blend modern innovations with a community focus, delivering on the quality consumers expect from the retailer. The 9,500-square-foot store, located in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood in Philadelphia at 2303 Bainbridge Street, will offer a selection of high-quality, fresh, local, seasonal and flavor-focused foods.

Angel Cordero, a 20-year grocery veteran, has been appointed store manager of the new GIANT Heirloom Market, according to a recent press release.

“We’ve had the privilege of getting to know our Graduate Hospital neighbors and they are the true inspiration for our new store,” said Cordero. “I am thrilled to soon officially open the doors to GIANT Heirloom Market, and I’m sure our neighbors will be just as excited to experience a store that connects them to real food, where every trip will inspire them to eat better—and for less.”

The store will operate 7 a.m-10 p.m., seven days a week and will also employ approximately 60 full- and part-time partners. It will also feature an onsite Produce Chef to encourage recipe exploration and to cut fruits and veggies for consumers, as well as a variety of plant-based foods, local artisanal breads, kombucha on tap, and a create-your-own olive oil and vinegar blend.

“We’re proud to serve our Graduate Hospital neighbors during their culinary quests by offering fresh produce, meat, and seafood alongside the Philly products they know and love all in a store designed for them,” continued Cordero. “We’re confident that by providing an authentic shopping experience, our passion for locally-sourced products and our customers will shine bright at GIANT Heirloom Market.”

Based on an “Endless Aisles” philosophy that stresses ease and personalized solutions, if customers ever need something that is not available in-store, partners will help guide them to in-store iPads to order online, to be delivered the next day. For added convenience, GIANT Heirloom Market will offer both self and mobile checkout.

The market will officially open its doors at 7 a.m. on January 25, 2019. The first 250 customers will receive a free GIANT Heirloom Market cotton tote bag. As part of the celebration, GIANT Heirloom Market will be offering free samplings and demonstrations throughout the day. The press release noted that an additional grand opening community celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. Neighbors are welcome to join GIANT leaders, partners, and community members as they commemorate the store opening with a donation to Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization.
