Index Fresh Gears Up For California Season
RIVERSIDE, CA - When California’s avocado season begins, the industry excitement is palpable. As numerous opportunities for retailers to promote this green gold present themselves, it’s up to the supply side to bring the goods. Index Fresh, the California-based avocado marketer, is here to deliver, having recently announced that it is looking forward to an “on” year for its avocado crop.
“We will be looking at extending the season on the front and back ends,” stated Giovanni Cavaletto, Vice President of Sourcing, noting that promotable volumes are to be expected from late winter 2020 into early fall. “Index Fresh has been working hard with growers through seminars to help increase per acre production in California. Harvest coordination is key, and how we harvest this season can have direct results on the 2021 crop.”
According to a press release, ample rainfall last winter alongside a year of rest led to a very strong bloom for the 2020 harvest. At these seminars, Index Fresh ensures that its growers are supported throughout this year’s crop by offering solutions for irrigation methods, pruning, pollination, and mulching, alongside other practices.
“In early January, we will hold grower meetings in San Luis Obispo, Oxnard, and Fallbrook to share information on the California crop, imports, and our team’s approach to be the best handler in the industry,” added Cavaletto.
In addition, the company is excited to announce the return of its GEM Avocado, which is now in its third season.
“We will be doubling our offering of GEM this year, and we’re thrilled to roll it out in late winter,” Cavaletto remarked. Given that the GEM avocado has a striking appearance—bright green skin with gold flecks on its skin—this eye-catching variety is sure to catch the attention of consumers. Alongside Index Fresh’s special promotions and POS materials, I’m predicting that the GEM season will be a retail home run.
