Catherine Gipe-Stewart Talks Superfresh Growers® Northwest Pear Season
YAKIMA, WA - With February just past the midpoint, I couldn’t help but set my eyes for the oncoming spring, because then I can enjoy delicious Northwest pears in abundance. Superfresh Growers®' latest announcement was music to my ears, as its Northwest pear season is positioned to have pears well into summer.
“We are enjoying good supply on Anjou pears right up to new crop pear season. There will not be a need to buy outside of the U.S., as domestic supply is healthy,” describes Catherine Gipe-Stewart, Communications Manager.
Superfresh Growers will also have Bosc pears available into April to support spring promotions. According to the press release, Anjou and Bosc pears are in good supply, with similar movement to the 2017-18 crop. There will be a steady supply of Green Anjou and Bosc to support ads as well as opportunities for markets that perform well on lower grade pears.
“We are experiencing good overall quality, but most notably flavor and juiciness are very good,” notes Gipe-Stewart. “Sizing is medium to large this year, though there are plenty of promotional opportunities for bulk and bagged pears.”
Retail partners and consumers alike can rest assured with Superfresh Growers supplying a bountiful season of organic pears this year.
“Organic pear demand continues to grow, as organic pear dollars are up 6.6 percent and organic pear volume is up 9.6 percent year-over-year (Nielsen data, last 52 weeks ending 1/25/2020),” concludes Gipe-Stewart.
