YAKIMA, WA - What happens when you cross the unique, sweet flavor of a kiwifruit with the convenient size of a berry? You get Superfresh Growers’ kiwi berries which are now starting their season. The “poppable,” delicious berries serve as a great snack option for consumers who want to add a little flair to their fall dishes.

Catherine Gipe-Stewart, Communications Manager, Superfresh Growers“Sunlight filtered through the canopy, illuminating beautiful kiwi berries hanging on the vines—it was beautiful,” described Catherine Gipe-Stewart, Communications Manager, as she detailed her most recent tour through the kiwi berry fields.

With such beautiful imagery surrounding the specialty variety, its no wonder that the kiwi berries have so much to offer. As the fruit takes on its blush characteristic signaling the upcoming harvest, retailers and consumers can prepare for all of the delicious possibilities in store.

Unlike its cousin, the kiwifruit, kiwi berries do not share the same outer fuzziness on their skin, according to a press release. Additionally, kiwi berries are much smaller in comparison, offering up a great option for kids or adults who want a convenient snack that they can pop in their mouths as they go. For an added level of ease, kiwi berries also don’t require any peeling.

“We are excited for kiwi berry season,” Gipe-Stewart continued. “Kiwi berries are a nutritional powerhouse, high in vitamin C, K, and E, as well as rich in potassium, magnesium, and fiber. A study also shows that kiwi berries lower LDL (low-density lipoprotein), the bad cholesterol, and raise HDL (high-density lipoprotein), the good cholesterol. High levels of HDL cholesterol can lower the risk for heart disease and stroke.”

As added health benefits have drawn the attention of consumers everywhere, Superfresh’s kiwi berries are the perfect combination of delicious and nutritious that shoppers can get behind. Whether served on top of salads, in Asian-inspired dishes, or just as an afternoon snack, kiwi berries offer the versatility and health that drives people to the produce aisle.

Harvest for these berries will begin on September 12, and will last only a short while as the harvest window is limited. So, retailers, make sure to get your hands on these sweet treats to keep customers coming back again and again.
