David Posner Dishes on Awe Sum Organics Peruvian Table Grape Deal and Value
SANTA CRUZ, CA - What was once a trend has become an anchor in the produce department as the organic destination pulls more of today’s consumer baskets into its aisles. As that demand grows, companies like Awe Sum Organics are answering the call, bringing a premium product to retailers and consumers. This fall, Awe Sum is tapping into is Peruvian table grape program to reach the multiple demographics that crave its quality offerings.
"Our growers’ organic vineyards in Northern and Southern Peru combine to provide a full supply of high-quality red and green organic IFG™ seedless varieties all winter long," David Posner, President and CEO, shares. "We also offer Red Globe grapes at much lower pricing than our seedless varieties for value-conscious organic consumers.”
As an Organic Produce Network report published on October 21, 2020, revealed, organic fruit and vegetable volume increased by 15.6 percent during the third quarter of this year in terms of volume. Additionally, organic grapes ranked number seven in sales after strawberries.
Awe Sum is loading its Peruvian table grape program on both coasts during the winter months, in both clamshells and handle/zipper pouch bags. Along with this high-value packaging, the company is also bringing unique growing practices to elevate its competitiveness in the marketplace.
“Both of our growers use our patented method for improving bud break in table grapes—a method that is 100 percent organically approved by the USDA’s NOP. Our growers use our cutting edge of BioFlora Organic fertilization program for organic table grapes,” David tells me.
Awe Sum Organics begins the winter organic grape season in Northern Peru and finishes with Southern Peruvian grape production. This harvesting window allows for a steady supply from mid-December through the end of March—a boon for produce departments.
