SALINAS, CA - In this age of innovation, efficiency is key. Muzzi Family Farms is well aware of this, and has made a significant move to reduce its energy output. The company recently installed a 1MW solar project, consisting of 3,136 panels, at its fresh processing facility in Moss Landing, California. This project will offset power consumption that the family operation places on the electrical grid, resulting in a 1,200+ ton reduction in CO2 production, equivalent to removing 235 vehicles off the roads annually.

Since 1964, the Muzzi family has been a part of California's central coast agricultural community, a press release stated. Constantly striving for product excellence, the company seeks innovation, both in automation and responsible utilization of alternative energy resources. Muzzi looks forward to future projects that will continue to reduce its environmental impact, while never wavering from its commitment to high-quality, healthy, and safe products.

On top of this announcement, the company has continued its efforts to manage the cooling and shipping of its fresh vegetable products by partnering with Coastline Family Farms in creating C&M Family Cooling in Castroville, California. The Castroville cooler handles Muzzi Family Farm’s fresh spinach, baby spinach, arugula, kale, spring mix, Florentine mix, and Brussels sprouts, while at the same time cooling and shipping Coastline’s iceberg, romaine, mini-romaine, leaf lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower, green onions, and a variety of other mixed vegetables. Thus, the facility serves as a one-stop shop for many customers that are loading product from both companies.

The C&M Family Cooling location continues the commitment to reducing CO2 emissions by utilizing a 280kW roof mounted solar system, consisting of 862 solar panels. This system offsets power consumption on the electrical grid, that results in a 400+ ton reduction in CO2 production, equivalent to removing 78 cars off the roads each year. This facility will continue expanding the variety of fresh products it cools and ships, as Muzzi and Coastline continue increasing their product lines.
