PMA's Center For Growing Talent Unveils Its Starting Lineup for Walking Challenge; Kristen Smith Eshaya Comments
NEWARK, DE - Ready, set, walk! As the industry builds up its excitement for the quickly approaching PMA Foodservice Conference and Expo, Center for Growing Talent is giving them an opportunity to channel all of that energy into another exciting event, as it has opened the Walking Challenge for Talent, a 7-day challenge that will run alongside the conference.
As team competitions continue to heat up, Kristen Smith Eshaya of JV Smith Companies is leading the recruitment across her own organization.
“At JV Smith Companies, wellness is one of our core values,” said Eshaya, Vice President of Organizational Development. “We are constantly having wellness challenges to compete against each other, so we jumped at the chance to work together to compete against other companies in the industry! We are proud to support the great work of Center for Growing Talent and their programs to recruit and retain talent to our industry.”
Participants may join the experience at any time, and prizes will be awarded to both individuals and teams, according to a press release, and individual registrants can choose their own personal goal from 3, 5, or 10 thousand steps a day.
Funds raised during the walk go toward Center for Growing Talent’s valuable programs, including Career Pathways, which engages students about the many career opportunities in the produce and floral industries. The overall goal is to raise at least $5,000, and industry participants may contribute by registering and joining a team or by contributing to a colleague’s team.
The team with the most members is eligible for a gift card to spend on a team celebration, in addition to bragging rights and organizational recognition in support of the Career Pathways program. Individuals who participate will also have a chance to win a free Management Fundamentals professional development course of their choosing through FreshEd Academy, a $500 value.
The competitive spirit is surely alive, as Eshaya stated, “[I love] that recruiting others in my organization for this challenge makes them aware of the Center or Growing Talent and their programs. We are mostly looking to kick butt! Sorry all, you don't stand a chance against us!”
