Pacific International Marketing's Dave Johnson Talks Yuma, Arizona, Transition

SALINAS, CA - As the post-Thanksgiving craze dies down, we head immediately into the next demand wave. Dave Johnson, President of Pacific International Marketing, gave me the scoop on how the grower’s current transition is going, and what buyers can expect for the holiday season.

Dave Johnson, President, Pacific International Marketing“We have successfully transitioned all of our items grown in the Salinas Valley down south. As of November 22, we are loading all of our items in the desert, including broccoli, cauliflower, celery, Romaine, garden vegetables, and herbs, among other items,” Dave remarked.

Throughout transition, Dave noted that there have been fluctuations in the market.

“The markets were already high prior to transitioning, but due to the lower yields in the desert, markets have remained high through transition,” he explained. “The monsoons that hit back in August also unfortunately detoured our plantings a bit. We are seeing the effects of this now with less than normal yields. Other than that, everything is going smoothly.”

Pacific International Marketing recently transitioned all of its products including lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and more down to Yuma, Arizona

Supply for Pacific is looking good overall, with lettuce coming on late but with quality and supply continuing to improve as more of its crews and machines arrive.

For buyers looking to get ahead of the holiday season, the team at Pacific continues to recommend early order placement.

“And remain comfortable knowing quality is good across all of our commodities,” Dave concluded.
