INDIA - Another day, another thank you to global authorities as they continue to keep fresh produce out of the hands of criminals. This time, the appreciation goes to Indian authorities who recently intercepted drugs worth over $234.5 million among shipments of fruit from South Africa.

On October 1, according to an article from Daily Maverick, the Indian government’s Press Information Bureau said that 158 kg (348.3 lbs) of high-purity crystal methamphetamine and 9 kg (19.8 lbs) of cocaine worth $174.5 million were discovered in containers of Valencia oranges imported from South Africa.

Later, on October 6, the authorities in India discovered an additional fifty bricks of cocaine totaling $60 million amongst containers carrying pears and green apples, also imported from South Africa.

Now, authorities from both countries have joined forces to crack down on the smuggling while investigating these cases.
