German Customs Officials Seize $44.3M Worth of Cocaine in Banana Shipment
BERLIN, GERMANY - Unfortunately, fresh produce has once again been victimized by the schemes of drug criminals. German customs officials seized 635 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a banana shipment, discovering roughly $44.3 million (44.5 million euros) worth of the illicit substance.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the shipment was discovered on October 27 in several packages in Duisburg in western Germany. The package, which included the drugs compressed into blocks and wrapped in plastic film, had been shipped from Ecuador.
The plastic-wrapped packages of drugs were found wedged between bananas in the container when it arrived in Germany via the Dutch port of Vlissingen.
A huge thanks goes out to the officials who have once again protected fresh produce from malicious intents.
